SPMC Nuclear Condensate Pump Passes Appraisal

We are pleased to share that on April 28–29, 2026, Shanghai Pump Manufacture Co., Ltd. (SPMC) successfully passed the technical appraisal for our self-developed 1,000 MW nuclear power unit condensate pump prototype, model NL0500-600SX3, in Shanghai.

The appraisal meeting was organized by the China General Machinery Industry Association and brought together experts from the China Machinery Industry Federation, China General Nuclear Power Operation Co., Ltd., China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd., East China Electric Power Design Institute, Institute of Mechanics of Shanghai University, the National Pump Standardization Committee, and Shanghai Urban Construction Design & Research Institute, among others.

During the review process, we invited the expert committee to visit our R&D, manufacturing, and testing facilities. The experts witnessed the on-site performance test of the prototype, examined the full set of technical documents, and conducted a thorough review through questions and discussions. After comprehensive evaluation, the committee agreed that our prototype had successfully passed the technical appraisal.

According to the committee, the documentation we provided was complete and met the appraisal requirements. They also confirmed that the product features a reasonable structural design, proper material selection, and performance parameters that fully satisfy the development task and relevant standards.

In developing this condensate pump, we achieved four key technical innovations:

• We adopted a low-NPSH first-stage double-suction impeller, which shortens the pump core length and improves operating stability.

• We developed a high-efficiency secondary impeller and optimized its matching with the spatial guide vane, allowing reliable operation within 30% to 120% of rated flow.

• We applied an asymmetrical hydraulic throttling sleeve sealing structure, helping extend the maintenance cycle of the sealing device.

• We carried out dynamic modal analysis to optimize the thrust bearing and rotor extraction structure, effectively reducing vibration.

The prototype has completed both type testing and third-party testing, and all results met the requirements of the development brief, test program, and related standards.

The appraisal committee also recognized that we have strong R&D capability, advanced process equipment, complete testing and inspection conditions, and an effective quality assurance system. In their view, Shanghai Pump Manufacture Co., Ltd. (SPMC) already has the necessary conditions for mass production of this product.

Most importantly, the committee concluded that our condensate pump prototype has independent intellectual property rights and that its main performance indicators have reached an internationally advanced level. They agreed that it is suitable for application in 1,000 MW nuclear power units.
